The North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources (http://www.ncdcr.gov/) preserves and promotes the state’s cultural heritage. Programs of interest include:
State Historic Preservation Office (http://www.hpo.ncdcr.gov/) – provides assistance in identifying and protecting historic properties and other cultural sites in the state.
Office of the State Archaeologist (http://www.archaeology.ncdcr.gov/) – works to protect and preserve archaeological sites and objects, including human burial sites.
State Archives (http://www.archives.ncdcr.gov/default.htm) – identifies, preserves, and makes accessible records (such as census records, military records, family histories, and various county, state and federal records) and other documents that can help you research your special sites.
