2013 Wyoming Tree Farmer of the Year

2013 Wyoming Tree Farmer of the Year

Paul, LuAnn and Josh Jacobson were presented the 2013 Tree Farmer of the Year award to honor the family for their outstanding sustainable forest management on their family owned woodlands. The family has been involved in forestry for as long as they have been a family.  Going all the way back to their roots in Minnesota where they established a log home and log furniture business to present day where they owned  a piece of paradise in the Black Hills of Wyoming which takes center stage in forest management.

The main objectives for management of the Jacobson Land Company Tree Farm are managing forest health by thinning and commercial harvesting, providing wildlife habitat, and increasing grazing potential.  Going along with these objectives are the importance of fire suppression and managing Mountain Pine Beetle outbreaks.  All of these objectives are interconnected and can be accomplished by proper forest management.  The Ponderosa Pine stands on the property must be thinned for improved timber production as well as increasing the grazing area for wildlife and livestock.
