Brown to Continue as ATFS Field Operations Director

September 1, 2004 at 4:45 PM by certification

The American Tree Farm System now has a national representative located in the field.  After nearly four years in the national office, Stephanie Brown has returned to Southern Illinois.  She will continue on a 70 percent appointment as Director of Field Operations for ATFS.

Brown began her tenure with the American Forest Foundation in September of 2000 as ATFS Deputy Director.  In February 2004, she was promoted to ATFS National Director, but shortly thereafter, family concerns prompted her to make the difficult decision to leave her leadership position to return to Illinois.  Rather than lose her services to the program, AFF has elected to keep her on the payroll in a field oriented role.

As Director of Field Operations, Brown works directly with State Tree Farm Committees to help their programs run smoothly.  She continues to lead AFF efforts with inspectors and volunteer leadership training.  Additionally, Stephanie is the national office liaison working with local committees to plan the annual National Tree Farmer Convention.  And, like most employees, her new job description contains the familiar phrase “other duties as assigned.”

Although working from a different location, Brown is still an integral part of the team that runs ATFS at the national level.  She leads some team efforts and participates in others.  Through a high speed Internet connection, she maintains a virtual presence in the national office, readily sharing access to computer files and conversing with staff throughout each workday.   When traveling, she will be available via cell phone and can check email at most destinations.
