The Wisconsin Historical Society (http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/) preserves and promotes the state’s cultural heritage.  Programs of interest include:

Historic Preservation (http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/hp/) – provides assistance in identifying and protecting historic properties, archaeological sites, burial places, and other cultural sites in the state.  The Wisconsin Historic Preservation Database (http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/hp/whpd/), an online database of the state’s documented historic resources, is maintained by the office.  You must be authorized to use the database, and they charge a subscription fee    

Library and Archives (http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/libraryarchives/) – identifies, preserves, and makes accessible records (such as census records, military records, family histories, and various county, state and federal records) and other documents that can help you research your special sites.
