The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=512&mode=2&objID=1426) preserves and promotes the state’s cultural heritage.  Programs of interest include:

Bureau for Historic Preservation (http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=512&objID=3741&&level=1&css=L1&mode=2) – provides assistance in identifying and protecting historic properties, archaeological sites, burial places, and other cultural sites in the state.  The Bureau maintains the Cultural Resources Geographic Information System (http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=512&objID=3802&&SortOrder=700&level=2&parentid=3741&css=L2&mode=2), an online map-based inventory of the documented historic and cultural resources of the state. 

State Archives (http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=512&objID=2632&&SortOrder=200&level=2&parentid=2887&css=L2&mode=2) – identifies, preserves, and makes accessible records (such as census records, military records, family histories, and various county, state and federal records) and other documents that can help you research your special sites.
