The Nebraska State Historical Society ( preserves and promotes the state’s cultural heritage.  Programs of interest include:

State Historic Preservation Office ( – provides assistance in identifying and protecting historic properties, archaeological sites, burial places, and other cultural sites in the state.  The Nebraska Historic Buildings Survey ( is maintained by the office and offers downloadable county reports. 

Archaeology Division ( – works to protect and preserve archaeological sites and objects, including human burial sites.   

Library/Archives Division ( – identifies, preserves, and makes accessible records (such as census records, military records, family histories, and various county, state and federal records) and other documents that can help you research your special sites.
