Global Packaging Company Reaffirms its Commitment to Sustainable Forest Management

WASHINGTON—One of the world's foremost packaging companies has announced a supply chain preference for certified material sourced from the American Tree Farm System® (ATFS).

MeadWestvaco Corporation (MWV), a global leader in packaging and packaging solutions, has reaffirmed its commitment to wood fiber sourced from sustainable third-party suppliers including America’s 89,000 ATFS-certified family forest owners.

Tom Martin, President and CEO of the American Forest Foundation, said today:

“Healthy forests need healthy markets, and MeadWestvaco’s preference for ATFS-certified wood will go a long way in improving market access for the families and individuals certified through ATFS. With better markets, families have the resources to invest in and continue to sustainably manage their woodlands.

“The American Tree Farm System is the nation’s premier certification system for family forest owners, who own more of America’s forests than the federal government. MeadWestvaco’s support of ATFS demonstrates its strong commitment to helping these families sustain their woodlands and this incredible economic and ecological asset in America’s rural communities.”

“We are grateful for their longstanding commitment to the stewardship of family forestland.”

MeadWestvaco was the first company to group-certify its landowner assistance program to the ATFS Standards of Sustainability for Forest Certification. Read MWV’s press release to learn more about the company’s preference for ATFS certified wood.
