ATFS Certification

ATFS Certification

Landowners who participate in State Tree Farm programs that offer a pathway to third-party certification (see map) are covered under an ATFS Group Certificate. A group certificate comprises a collection of Tree Farm programs operating with designated geo-political boundaries (e.g. state, county, etc.) or fiber sourcing areas. Through the end of 2022, ATFS programs are divided into 3 regions under 3 separate certificates (Map 1). Thereafter, they will operate under one national group certificate (Map 2).

The ATFS certificate allows companies in the forest products supply chain to make a sustainability claim on wood harvested from ATFS-certified forests.

All landowners in the ATFS program are verified through internal monitoring to conform to the Standards of Sustainability; those who are in third-party certification programs may also be asked to participate in third-party assessment as a condition of their enrollment.
