If you have ever wondered how forestry works in Florida, the National Tree Farmer Convention Field Day on Saturday, June 16 is the place for answers. Local contractors and vendors from every aspect of Florida forestry will be on hand for demos and information.

The Reinhold Family invites everyone to Shadowlawn Farms. They will share the many applications and techniques used on their property, both past and present. Learn about the many facets on southern pine plantation management and witness demonstrations of a timber harvest crew, the power of the different site preparation, and tree planting machines. Talk with a wildlife biologist to learn about different deer and turkey management programs. Gain an education in control burning and Florida Silviculture Best Management Practices.

The property has been owned by the Reinhold family since 1932 when they purchased 110,000 acres from J. C. Penney, a personal friend and business associate of Mr. Reinhold.  The Reinhold family sold off several large parcels in the 40’s and 50’s; including 43,000 acres that is now Camp Blanding military base. Originally incorporated as Foremost Properties, the property included land and timber assets, as well as a dairy and cattle operation, which was in operation until the early 1980’s. In addition to the timber assets, a commercial nursery was started in 1987 on the site of the former dairy and now bears the name Shadowlawn Nursery.

To add to the flavor of the day, attendees will experience live music and some of the best country BBQ in Florida!
