About

South Dakota Family Forests Association (SDFFA) is a 501(c)(3) organization of private forest landowners whose members adhere to a high standard for forest stewardship, and promote the American Tree Farm System’s four tenets of wood, water, recreation, and wildlife.

SDFFA purpose: to provide the resources, education, and network for members to practice active stewardship of the land, thereby creating healthy, resilient, and productive forests.

SDFFA focus: advocacy (local, state and federal), education, forest stewardship, and creating opportunities for its members.

SDFFA membership eligibility: The landowner must have a minimum of ten forested acres and a Forest Stewardship Plan (FSP), which is a blueprint for forest management based on the landowner’s unique objectives and goals.

SDFFA member benefits: As an SDFFA member, landowners are enrolled in the American Tree Farm System and receive a Tree Farm sign which publicly acknowledges the landowner’s commitment to stewardship excellence. Members participate in tree farm activities and field tours, educational opportunities and workshops, and receive general updates relating to forest land ownership. They also receive a complimentary inspection by an ATFS qualified forester every five years. SDFFA members become part of a community of forest landowners who together impact forest landowner issues at the local, state, and federal level. Annual dues are $100.
