Question: What is a Certified Tree Farm?
Answer:
A tree farm is defined as an area of privately owned forestland managed to produce continuous crops of trees while protecting or enhancing soil, water, range, aesthetics, recreation, wood, fish, and wildlife resources.

In order to be designated as an ATFS Certified Tree Farm an area must be certified by a professional forester as meeting the ATFS Standards of Sustainability for Forest Certification which also includes an acceptable written management plan that meets the criteria in the ATFS Standards.

Question: What is a management plan?
Answer:
A current, written forest management plan is a key element of your stewardship and is required under the Standards. Your management plan serves as a record of what has been done in your woods and what you plan to do in the future. It can be the basis for a conversation with your family or forester about your objectives for your property and the steps you will take to achieve your goals.
