Outstanding Tree Farmers – 1993

Wayne and Colleen Krieger
Oregon

The road led from actively managing his woods to the state house.

"Our greatest challenge today is to communicate the positive things we are doing in Tree Farming." And Wayne and Colleen Krieger of Gold Beach, Oregon do that with words and action. Residents of Gold Beach have witnessed this in hills overlooking their town as Wayne and Colleen have transformed 127 acres of cut over brushland into a healthy, thriving forest of Redwoods and Douglas fir trees. The Kriegers, sole managers of their Sky View Ranch, practice sustainable forestry, which promotes a variety of trees and enhances wildlife, fisheries, and water quality. Wayne and Colleen not only give back to the land, they give back to the community. Over the years they have raised ten foster children, along with their own six, and have created a college scholarship fund for local students interested in pursuing a forestry career.

Wayne and Colleen Krieger reside at their Sky View Ranch, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. They have been strong advocates of sustainable forestry. In 2000, Wayne was elected state representative.
