Action Alerts

As most of you know, ATFS has been working as part of the Forests in the Farm Bill Coalition which has recently developed proposed legislation for this year's Farm Bill reauthorization.  Please see the attached documents.  The first document is proposed legislative language and the second document is an explanation of what we have proposed.

We learned today that both the House Forestry Subcommittee and the Conservation Subcommittee (subsets of the full Agriculture Committee) need to start hearing from Members of Congress by May 11 in order to work forest priorities into the language the Subcommittees are working on right now. This is extremely important and may be one of the only opportunities to influence programs such as EQIP and the Healthy Forest Reserve Program that are part of the Farm Bill.

Call to Action
This is for Tree Farmers who reside in or have property in the target districts listed below. Call your Member of Congress Today or Tommorw.

1.) Tell Member that forestry is important in Farm Bill & why.

2.) Ask Member of Congresss if they can support all or part of forests in the farm bill legislative package.

3.) Ask Member to contact "Conservation & Forestry Subcommittee Leaders & their staff" to make forests a priority.

4.) Report back to Emily Chan, ATFS Program Manager at echan@treefarmsystem.org on results.
