Implementation of the 2008 Farm Bill

Forests in the Farm Bill Coalition

More than 30 organizations partnered to create the Forests in the Farm Bill Coalition to advocate for private forest landowners. A platform document was developed to highlight the need for action, the policy opportunities in the Farm Bill and a complete list of all participating organizations.

After the 2008 Farm Bill passed, with more opportunities for forest landowners, this coalition worked to develop materials for landowners as well as trainings for state agencies, NRCS and foresters.

Woodland Owner Brochure

A digital version of the USDA Farm Bill: What is in it for Woodland Owners? brochure is available.

If you or your organization/agency are interested in printing this brochure, please email operations@forestfoundation.org and we can send you a higher resolution version of the brochure that is appropriate for printing. A box on the back of the brochure has been left open so you can add your organization's logo to your printing.

2008 Farm Bill Implementation Webinars for Foresters and Natural Resource Professionals

State forestry agencies, State Forestry Extension Specialists, U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) employees, and inspectors of the American Tree Farm System were invited to participate in one of two 2008 Farm Bill implementation and update webinars. The webinars were led by Bruce Wight, National Forester for NRCS, Ted Beauvais, Assistant Director of Cooperative Forestry Staff for the USFS and Karl Dalla Rosa, Forest Stewardship Program Manager for the USFS.

The purpose of the webinars was to:

  • Present highlights and implementation status of the forestry-related conservation programs in the 2008 Farm Bill
  • Inform foresters and natural resource professionals about:
    - Opportunities for integrating programs and for landowners to apply for USDA assistance (e.g. Forest Stewardship Program, Environmental Quality Incentives Program and others)
    - Importance of participating on their State Technical Committee and contacting NRCS and FSA officials in the state for program specific information, eligibility requirements, etc.
    - Importance of engaging in Forest Resource Assessments and Strategies for their States.
  • Resources available for landowners

The webinar presentation is now available online.

If you are interested, you can listen to a recording of the webinar.
